The acquisition of Dremio by SAP is expected to positively impact the enterprise software and data management markets by providing a more unified and efficient platform for AI workloads. This move could strengthen SAP's position in the competitive AI and data analytics space, potentially leading to increased market share and investor confidence.
SAP has agreed to acquire Dremio, a data lakehouse platform, to enhance its SAP Business Data Cloud and SAP HANA Cloud offerings. This acquisition aims to unify SAP and non-SAP data, accelerate agentic AI, and improve real-time analytical workloads. Philipp Herzig, CTO of SAP, emphasized that Dremio will help overcome data fragmentation, which is a common bottleneck in enterprise AI projects. The SAP Business Data Cloud will become an Apache Iceberg-native enterprise lakehouse, supporting open-source projects like Apache Iceberg, Apache Polaris, and Apache Arrow. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to close in Q3 2026.
