Analysis based on 23 articles · First reported May 05, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026
The Truecaller report highlights a significant global issue of spam and fraud calls, which erodes trust in voice communication and can lead to missed economic opportunities for businesses. This trend could negatively impact telecommunication companies and financial institutions in highly affected countries like Indonesia, Chile, Brazil, India, and Nigeria, as users become more hesitant to answer unknown calls, potentially disrupting legitimate business communications and transactions.
Truecaller released its 2025 Spam and Fraud Report, revealing that over 68 billion spam and fraud calls were identified globally in 2025. The report ranks Indonesia as the most spammed country, followed by Chile, Vietnam, Brazil, and India. Nigeria is identified as the most spammed country in Africa and eighth globally, with 51% of unknown calls flagged as spam or fraudulent, largely due to telecom-related outreach. The report emphasizes the growing concern of fraud, impersonation, and scams affecting daily lives and the declining trust in unknown calls. Rishit Jhunjhunwala, CEO of Truecaller, stated the company's focus for 2026 is on stopping fraud before it reaches users. Truecaller also announced surpassing 500 million monthly active users globally as of March 31, 2026.
