BJP's West Bengal Election Victory

The India — Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a historic and decisive election victory in India — West Bengal, marking the first time the party has taken control of the state and ending Mamata Banerjee's 15-year rule. This win strengthens Prime Minister Narendra Modi's position and is seen as the culmination of a "seven-year project" by the BJP leadership, reflecting anti-incumbency sentiment and a consolidation of the Hindu vote. Donald Trump congratulated Narendra Modi on this victory. The new BJP government, led by Chief Minister-elect Suvendu Adhikari, is expected to usher in an era of "peace and prosperity" and a "double-engine" administration. This political shift has revived industry expectations for the long-delayed Rs 25,000 crore Tajpur Deep Sea Port project, with hopes for accelerated progress due to improved Centre-state coordination. The Bangladesh — Bangladesh Nationalist Party also congratulated the BJP, expressing optimism that the new administration will facilitate the long-stalled Teesta Water Sharing Treaty, which Mamata Banerjee's previous administration was seen as impeding. However, the previous tender for the Tajpur port was cancelled due to inadequate participation, and an earlier arrangement with Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone was terminated. Sanjay Raut of Shiv Sena (UBT) questioned Trump's congratulations, alleging election irregularities, which the BJP dismissed as an attempt to "besmirch" India's image.
