Bombay HC Upholds Sohrabuddin Acquittals

The India — Bombay High Court upheld the acquittal of 22 accused, including 21 police personnel from India — Gujarat Police and India — Rajasthan, in the 2005 alleged fake encounter case of gangster Death of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, his wife Death of Sohrabuddin Sheikh, and aide Killing of Tulsiram Prajapati. The court dismissed appeals filed by Death of Sohrabuddin Sheikh's brothers, Rubabuddin Shaikh and Nayabuddin Shaikh, who challenged the December 2018 special court judgment. The United States — Federal Bureau of Investigation, the prosecuting agency, had previously accepted the acquittal and did not appeal. The case involved the alleged abduction and killing of Death of Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Death of Sohrabuddin Sheikh in 2005, and Killing of Tulsiram Prajapati in 2006, with the trial later shifted to Mumbai by the India — Supreme Court of India.
