Nintendo Switch 2 Price Hike
Analysis based on 11 articles · First reported May 08, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026
The price increases by Nintendo for its Switch 2 and other Switch models are expected to negatively impact sales volume, as Nintendo itself forecasts a decline in Switch 2 unit sales. This move, however, might improve profit margins for Nintendo in the face of rising component costs and market conditions, potentially offsetting some of the negative sentiment from reduced sales.
Nintendo has announced global price increases for its Switch 2 console, with the new prices taking effect on September 1, 2026, in the United States, Canada, and Europe, and earlier on May 25, 2026, in Japan. The price of the Switch 2 will rise by $50 in the United States to $499.99, by CAD 50 in Canada to $679.99, and by €30 in Europe to €499.99. Japan will experience steeper increases across all Switch models and Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions. Nintendo attributes these changes to 'changes in market conditions' and a global shortage of computer memory. The company has also forecasted a slowdown in Switch 2 sales for the upcoming year, expecting to sell 16.5 million units compared to 19.86 million in its launch year. This follows similar price hikes by competitors PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S.
