The ongoing negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Chile are expected to enhance market access, reduce trade barriers, and boost bilateral investments, positively impacting both economies. This agreement could particularly benefit sectors like minerals, energy, agriculture, and services in both India and Chile.
Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal and Chile's Minister of Foreign Affairs Francisco Pérez Mackenna held discussions to review the progress of the proposed India-Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The CEPA aims to expand the scope of the existing Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) to include sectors like digital services, investment promotion, MSMEs, and critical minerals. Both India and Chile are committed to deepening economic engagement and strengthening their strategic partnership, with the CEPA expected to boost trade, exports, employment, and investment cooperation. The Joint Study Group report was finalized on April 30, 2024, and formal CEPA negotiations were launched during Gabriel Boric's visit to India in April 2025.
