India Expands EV Charging Infrastructure

Union Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy announced the approval of proposals for 4,874 EV chargers across various states and Central Public Sector Enterprises in India, with a financial outlay of Rs 503.86 crore under the PM E-DRIVE scheme. Specifically, India — Karnataka will receive 1,243 EV chargers with an allocation of Rs 123.26 crore. This initiative is part of India's broader strategy to accelerate the transition to clean mobility, achieve Net Zero emissions by 2070, and strengthen its automotive sector. The India — Ministry of Heavy Industries is also developing the 'Unified Bharat e-Charge' app to streamline EV charging access and has launched other schemes like the PLI ACC Scheme for battery manufacturing, the PLI Auto Scheme for cleaner vehicles, and the REPM Scheme for rare earth magnets. Public sector oil companies and private players like Tata Power, ChargeZone, and Mahindra & Mahindra are acknowledged for their contributions to the EV ecosystem.
