Uttar Pradesh Implements Austerity Measures

India — Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has implemented a comprehensive set of austerity and fuel-saving measures in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal amid global uncertainties. Key directives include an immediate 50% reduction in official vehicle fleets for the chief minister, ministers, and bureaucrats. Yogi Adityanath also urged citizens to reduce fuel consumption, avoid unnecessary gold purchases, and limit non-essential foreign travel for six months. The measures promote work-from-home arrangements, virtual meetings, and increased use of public transport, including Metrorail services and India — Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses. A weekly 'No Vehicle Day' is proposed, and staggered office timings are suggested to ease peak-hour traffic. Additionally, the state is encouraging electricity conservation, domestic tourism through a 'Visit My State' campaign, and the promotion of local products and natural farming. The expansion of Natural gas networks and rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana are also being accelerated.
