The regulatory action by the India — Central Consumer Protection Authority against coaching institutes like Motion Education Private Limited and Career Line Coaching highlights increased scrutiny on advertising practices in the education sector. This could lead to greater transparency and potentially impact the business models of other coaching institutes, as they may need to adjust their marketing strategies to comply with stricter consumer protection guidelines.
The India — Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed penalties of Rs 10 lakh on Motion Education Private Limited and Rs 5 lakh on Career Line Coaching (CLC), Sikar, for publishing misleading advertisements regarding JEE and NEET examination results. The CCPA found that both institutes engaged in unfair trade practices and violated consumer rights by concealing crucial information. Motion Education Private Limited falsely attributed success to its paid programs when many students were enrolled in free courses or joined after exams, while Career Line Coaching made unsubstantiated claims and hid that many featured students were only in test series courses. Both institutes have appealed the orders before the India — National Medical Commission. This action is part of a broader regulatory push by the India — Central Consumer Protection Authority, which has issued over 60 notices and imposed more than Rs 1.39 crore in penalties on 31 coaching institutes.
