India's first SME-led semiconductor chip manufacturing facility by Sahasra Semiconductors was inaugurated in Bhiwadi, India — Rajasthan, on Friday. The facility, developed under the India — Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology's SPECS scheme with an investment of over ₹150 crore, is located within the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) developed by ELCINA. Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw virtually inaugurated the facility, with India — Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Union Minister Devender Yadav also present. The plant will package memory chips, LED driver ICs, eSIMs, and RFID products, with an initial annual capacity of 60 million units, projected to scale up to 400-600 million units. Over 60% of its production is already being exported globally. India — Rajasthan also introduced its Semiconductor Policy in March 2026, aiming to develop the Delhi-NCR region into a manufacturing hub. This event marks a significant step in India's push to strengthen its domestic electronics sector, which has seen substantial growth in production and exports over the past 12 years.
