James Sule and Adamu Yau, two security guards in Abuja, have been sentenced to life imprisonment without an option of fine for the serial rape of a six-year-old girl. The abuse began in 2016 when the victim was six and continued until 2022. James Sule, initially the family's security guard, lured the child into a toilet and assaulted her, threatening her with a knife. He later recruited Adamu Yau and another individual, Muhammed (currently at large), to participate in the abuse, threatening the victim and her family. The abuse came to light when the victim's parents noticed behavioral changes and she confided in a pastor. The case was reported to the Association for Reproductive and Family Health and then transferred to the Nigeria — National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, which successfully prosecuted the convicts under the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act. The Director-General of the Nigeria — National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Binta Adamu-Bello, lauded the judiciary's landmark ruling.
