Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif China Visit

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif undertook a four-day official visit to China from May 23-26, 2026, aimed at enhancing bilateral strategic cooperation and expanding economic ties. During the visit, Shehbaz Sharif met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, reaffirming the 'unbreakable' friendship between the two nations and discussing the advancement of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Phase II, which focuses on growth, livelihood enhancement, innovation, green development, and openness. China reiterated its commitment to prioritizing Pakistan in its neighborhood diplomacy and called for deeper cooperation in agriculture, industry, artificial intelligence, and talent cultivation. A significant aspect of the visit was Pakistan's active role in mediating the US-Iran conflict, with China appreciating Pakistan's 'constructive role' in restoring peace in the Middle East. Both countries emphasized the importance of security cooperation and jointly opposing unilateralism and the Cold War mentality to promote a multipolar world. The visit also included meetings with leading Chinese enterprises like FAMSUN, Shandong Xinxu Group Corporation, China Communications Construction Company, and China Communications Construction Company — China Road and Bridge Corporation, to discuss investments in various sectors including agriculture, maritime development, battery manufacturing, mineral processing, and infrastructure. Pakistan also reaffirmed its commitment to the one-China principle and welcomed China's efforts to boost dialogue with Afghanistan, while opposing the use of territory by groups like the Pakistani Taliban and Turkistan Islamic Party.
