The agreement is expected to generate approximately 44 crore rupees annually for participating dairy cooperatives, directly boosting their revenues and providing assured market opportunities. This initiative will also strengthen rural livelihoods and local employment in the North Eastern states by encouraging greater milk procurement from local farmers and investment in dairy infrastructure.
The National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India (NCDFI) and Assam Rifles signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) in New Delhi to expand the supply of milk and dairy products to Assam Rifles units across the North Eastern states. This agreement builds on a successful previous collaboration, with Assam Rifles now sourcing an expanded range of products, including malt-based food and cheese from entities like Amul, and fresh milk and butter from dairy unions in Assam, Nagaland, West Bengal, and Rajasthan. The partnership aims to ensure a dependable supply of quality dairy products for Assam Rifles personnel, particularly in remote areas, while simultaneously creating significant market opportunities for dairy cooperatives and their farmer members. The initiative is projected to generate approximately 44 crore rupees annually for participating cooperatives, fostering rural empowerment, cooperative growth, and dairy development in the region. Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera of Assam Rifles and Meenesh Shah of NCDFI highlighted the mutual benefits, including improved access to fresh milk in border areas and enhanced farmer incomes.
