Fifty residents in the Ghatlodia area of India — Ahmedabad fell ill with symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting after contaminated water from a drainage system entered a drinking water pipeline. Eleven individuals were hospitalized, though local residents claim hundreds were affected. The India — Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) identified a pipeline breakdown on May 30 as the cause, which has since been repaired. Dr Bhavin Solanki, Medical Officer of Health at the AMC, confirmed the complaints from nine residential societies. Civic commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani stated that 50 individuals received OPD consultations. The AMC has deployed medical vans and health teams to the area, and all patients are reported to be safe. The incident has renewed concerns over ageing infrastructure and sewage contamination risks.
