The approval of the export license for Microchip Technology to develop advanced semiconductor technologies in Armenia is positive for Microchip Technology's stock, as it expands its global engineering capabilities and market reach. It also signals a strengthening of Armenia's role in the global semiconductor supply chain, potentially attracting further foreign investment into the country's technology sector.
Microchip Technology's Armenian office has received an export license from the United States — United States Department of Commerce's United States — Bureau of Industry and Security. This authorization allows Microchip Technology to use advanced technology and high-performance hardware for semiconductor development in Armenia, adhering to U.S. export regulations. Shakeel Peera, vice president of Microchip Technology's FPGA business unit, emphasized the company's commitment to semiconductor innovation and support for Armenia's growing technology ecosystem. Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, Minister of High-Tech Industry of the Republic of Armenia, highlighted the license as a crucial step in strengthening Armenia's position in the global semiconductor supply chain, reducing barriers for engineering talent, and fostering innovation. This achievement is a result of the Memorandum of Understanding on Artificial Intelligence and Semiconductors signed between Armenia and the United States in August 2025. Microchip Technology established its presence in Armenia through the acquisition of Semiconductor in 2023 and has since expanded its local workforce by 43 percent across four locations.
