The agreements between DayOne Data Centers and Tenaga Nasional subsidiaries are expected to positively impact the renewable energy sector in Malaysia, driving investment and development in solar and battery storage projects. This move also strengthens Malaysia's appeal as a digital infrastructure hub, as access to sustainable energy is a critical requirement for global hyperscalers, potentially attracting more foreign direct investment into the country's technology sector.
DayOne Data Centers, a Singapore-headquartered digital infrastructure platform, has signed landmark renewable energy supply agreements with Tenaga Nasional — TNB Renewables Sdn. Bhd. and Tenaga Nasional — TNB Power Generation Sdn. Bhd., subsidiaries of Tenaga Nasional, in Malaysia. These agreements, formalized under Malaysia's Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), cover approximately 1.5GWp of solar capacity and 2.2GWh of battery energy storage. The partnership secures over 1GW of renewable energy for DayOne Data Centers' operations in Malaysia, supporting its goal of 100% renewable energy by 2030 and a 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from its 2025 baseline. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and other senior government officials, underscoring Malaysia's commitment to its National Energy Transition Roadmap and its ambition to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This collaboration reinforces Malaysia's position as a regional hub for data centers, cloud, and AI infrastructure, attracting significant investment from DayOne Data Centers, which plans a RM28 billion cumulative commitment by the end of 2026.
