Dangote Refinery Expands Capacity to 700,000 bpd

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has achieved a significant milestone by increasing its crude oil processing capacity to 700,000 barrels per day (bpd), surpassing its nameplate capacity of 650,000 bpd. This makes it the world's largest single-train petroleum refinery. The expansion is part of an ambitious strategy by Aliko Dangote to more than double capacity to 1.4 million bpd by 2028, aiming to become the largest refinery globally. This development is crucial for Nigeria, as it is expected to boost energy self-sufficiency, eliminate dependence on imported refined products, and strengthen the country's position as a regional export hub. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has already become a major supplier to domestic and international markets, exporting products to several African countries, key European destinations like the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands, and even supplying gasoline to the United States and jet fuel to Saudi Arabia. S&P Global Energy reported that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery became the world's largest exporter of jet fuel in April. The refinery's growth is also expected to generate substantial economic benefits for Nigeria, including job creation, increased industrial activity, and improved trade balances, while also strengthening downstream manufacturing through the supply of LPG, polypropylene, and Linear Alkylbenzene (LAB).
