CBSE Retains COEMPT, Migrates Data

The India — Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to retain Coempt Edutech for scanning answer sheets during the ongoing re-evaluation process for Class 12 board exams. This decision comes despite previous concerns over the security and vulnerabilities of Coempt Edutech's On-screen Marking (OSM) platform, which had reportedly faced cyberattacks. To address these issues, the India — Central Board of Secondary Education has moved all answer-sheet data and records from Coempt Edutech's servers to its own controlled infrastructure. Teams from IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras were brought in to review and strengthen the system, conducting extensive security audits, including 'red team' and 'blue team' exercises. The India — Digital India Corporation also led efforts to improve the codebase. The India — Central Board of Secondary Education has received over 70,000 applications for re-evaluation and verification of marks, with many students complaining about poorly scanned or missing answer sheets. Ethical hacker Cyclone Nisarga also reported vulnerabilities, which were acknowledged by the India — Central Board of Secondary Education. Despite the challenges, officials state that no data breach has been detected so far, and the system has been fortified for continued use.
