Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Land Port Management System (LPMS), also known as 'Vinimay', a digital platform designed to modernize and streamline operations across India's land ports. This initiative, aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for 'smart border management' and 'Viksit Bharat by 2047', aims to enhance efficiency, transparency, and security in cross-border trade and passenger movement. The LPMS integrates operations across all land ports into a unified system, enabling real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information. It introduces end-to-end digital workflows for cargo and passenger processing, including slot booking, payments, tracking, and single-window clearances, eliminating 90% of paperwork and reducing processing time by 40-60%. The system is fully integrated with key national platforms like India — Indian Customs Electronic Gateway (ICEGATE), Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), and the motor vehicle ecosystem. Amit Shah also inaugurated new stakeholder accommodation facilities at the Dawki (Meghalaya) and Srimantapur (Tripura) Land Ports. The India — Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), a statutory body under the Ministry of Home Affairs, operates 15 land ports across India's international borders with Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar. Trade through India's land ports has seen substantial growth, increasing from around Rs 5,000 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 82,800 crore in 2024-25.
