The commencement of production testing by Reconnaissance Energy Africa and its partners at the Kavango West 1X well in Namibia is a significant development for the oil and gas sector. A successful test could unlock commercial viability for the Damara Fold Belt, positively impacting Reconnaissance Energy Africa's stock and potentially attracting further investment into Namibia's energy sector.
Reconnaissance Energy Africa, along with partners National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia and OVO Energy, has commenced production testing operations at the Kavango West 1X well in Namibia. This marks the first cased production test in the country, evaluating six zones across the Huttenburg and Elandshoek formations, totaling 420 meters of hydrocarbon-bearing rock. Downhole perforation work is underway, managed by SLB and Halliburton, with results expected by late July. Each of the six zones will be tested for up to 10 days, with any hydrocarbons flared. A successful test would lead to the temporary abandonment of the KW1X well as a future producing well. Reconnaissance Energy Africa is also preparing for the Kavango West 2A appraisal well, targeting a spud date before the end of the third quarter, pending regulatory approvals. Brian Reinsborough, CEO of Reconnaissance Energy Africa, highlighted the test as a pivotal point for unlocking the commerciality of the Damara Fold Belt.
