The market impact is minimal as this is a routine administrative change to ensure a continuing supply of telephone numbers. It does not affect call pricing or coverage areas for customers of Verizon>>> or other providers in United States — New York City>>>.
Verizon announced the introduction of the new 465 area code as an overlay to the existing 347/718/917/929 area codes in United States — New York City, specifically in the boroughs of the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Marble Hill section of Manhattan. Beginning June 18, 2026, new telephone lines or services in these areas may be assigned numbers with the 465 area code. This overlay does not require customers to change their existing area code or alter call pricing, but mandates continued 1+10 digit dialing for local calls. The United States — New York State Department of Financial Services also provides information on this change.
