The first export of GI-tagged Tezpur Litchi from India — Assam, India, to United Arab Emirates — Dubai and Singapore has been successfully facilitated by the India — Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority. A one-metric-tonne consignment was sent to United Arab Emirates — Dubai on June 7, with another 600 kilograms dispatched to Singapore. This initiative marks a significant milestone for agricultural exports from India's North Eastern Region, known for the litchi's distinctive sweetness and bright-red appearance. Farmers involved in the export supply chain received nearly 10% higher prices compared to domestic markets, creating new marketing opportunities and encouraging greater participation in export-oriented value chains. The Geographical Indication status of Tezpur Litchi has strengthened its identity and market recognition, enhancing its appeal among international buyers.
