Nigeria Reps Summon Security Chiefs

The Nigeria — House of Representatives (Nigeria)>>> has summoned the nation's service chiefs, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu>>>, and other key officials including the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Defence, to address the worsening security situation across the country. This resolution followed a motion sponsored by Hon. P. Sulaiman>>> due to persistent attacks by bandits, terrorists, and kidnappers, particularly in Nigeria — Zamfara State>>>, Nigeria — Sokoto State>>>, Nigeria — Katsina State>>>, Nigeria — Kaduna State>>>, Nigeria — Kano State>>>, Nigeria — Kebbi State>>>, Nigeria — Jigawa State>>>, Nigeria — Oyo State>>>, Nigeria — Benue State>>>, and Nigeria — Plateau State>>>. Lawmakers expressed concern over the disruption of economic activities, displacement of communities, and threats to lives despite increased government spending on security. They called for comprehensive briefings on ongoing operations, enhanced coordination among security agencies, increased investment in technology, recruitment of forest guards, and renewed efforts to establish state policing. The House also urged the Minister of Defence to deploy additional personnel and equipment to affected states and called for non-kinetic approaches from other ministries to address root causes.
