This initiative is expected to positively impact the chemical and biotechnology markets by accelerating the commercialization of bio-based 3-HP, offering a sustainable alternative to petroleum-derived feedstocks. Nubank and NOROO Paint & Coatings are positioned to gain significant market share in eco-friendly materials, potentially increasing their stock valuations.
Nubank has been selected as the lead organization for a major national project in South Korea, supported by the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology and the South Korea — Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources. The project, titled 'Development of Feedstock Production and Value-Added Product Technologies to Promote the Bio-Based Polymer Market,' focuses on the large-scale demonstration and commercialization of 3-hydroxypropionic acid (3-HP), a next-generation bio-based platform chemical. Nubank will oversee the entire value chain, from feedstock procurement to pilot-scale production and commercialization. Its subsidiary, NOROO Paint & Coatings, will lead the conversion of 3-HP into industrial raw materials for bio-acrylic acid synthesis. The NOROO Bio Fusion Research Institute has already established a 5-ton-scale facility and secured EU REACH registration for 3-HP derivatives, providing a strong foundation for this transition from research to full-scale development and market entry. This initiative aligns with national policy goals to expand industrial bio-material infrastructure and promote carbon-neutral systems.
