The construction of Polarization's new AI data center in Germany is expected to positively impact the technology and renewable energy markets by increasing domestic computing capacity and driving demand for sustainable energy solutions. This move also supports Europe's broader strategic goal of technological sovereignty, potentially reducing reliance on foreign providers.
German start-up Polarization plans to build a new 30-megawatt artificial intelligence data center in Amberg, Bavaria, which is expected to come online in mid-2027 and could eventually expand to 120 MW. This project will double Germany's domestically-run computing capacity, aligning with European nations' push for greater sovereign control over critical tech infrastructure. The first stage of the project is estimated to cost in the 'triple-digit million euro range', excluding AI chips. Polarization's partner, WV Energie, will install a wind and solar power plant with batteries to power the facility, addressing rising energy costs and sustainability concerns. This follows Polarization's recent 12-MW data center opening in Munich, which cost an estimated 1 billion euros and also doubled Germany's locally-operated capacity.
